Apulit Island, Palawan
![]() Welcome to South East Asian Air, Flight 402. I was in seat 10 of 19. The girls were next to me and the boys in the row behind. The flight to Rodriguez takes about an hour and 20 minutes. What? No in-flight movie? No food? No... stewardess? |
![]() Morning over the Philippine islands. The windows weren't exactly crystal clear, but you get the idea. |
![]() Jonathon was perusing the in-flight magazine. |
![]() The air gets a little chilly at 10,000 feet so I passed over a beach wrap to keep their legs warm. |
![]() Landed at Rodriguez International airport. OK, not really. At least the runway wasn't all grass. |
![]() The charming waiting room. We wanted to ask where the Business Class lounge was. Perhaps that one would be dog and chicken free? |
![]() Transport to the bangka. |
![]() On the roof of the bangka. This was while we were still on the river and before I pulled out the sunglasses. |

In our cabana, the beds had been decorated with flowers and little birds made of long strips of leaves. |
![]() Introduction to snorkeling. Aside from the vests, the gear wasn't small enough for the boys but they did try. The water tasted so awful though that with oversized mouthpieces they got more water in than they would without. |
![]() Fish feeding frenzy. Sometimes they'd mistake fingers for a snack and you'd feel a nibble. The kids weren't allowed to feed the large jackfish on the bottom because then we really might have come home with fewer digits. |
![]() Some of the fish. I hope to get some good photos back from our underwater camera. I'm sure I could look up what all the different kinds of fish were, but at the time it was enough to just watch them. |
![]() The tide was out. |

Close encounters with non-native creatures. For some reason it was really funny to see rabbits hopping around the beach. |
![]() Katherine getting a massage on the beach. |
![]() We discovered how bad we were at kayaking. After our group ride, Nicholas took the white boat and took off by himself. Almost as far as you can see in this photo is knee deep, so he could get around quite a bit without worry of drifting off to sea. |
![]() Sea water does strange things to Katherine's hair. |

Picnic lunch at the adjacent beach. When the kids weren't jabbering or singing, it was so quiet and we watched the small black-tipped sharks swimming along the shoreline. There was no shortage of food, though we all stayed away from the whole fish on a skewer. For as long as we've lived here, we haven't taken to the whole fish experience. |
![]() We went to Noa-Noa Island to snorkel on a nicer reef. That was the idea at least. This is Jonathon at the beginning of snorkeling. |
![]() This is Jonathon at the end of snorkeling. The only thing that moved over the course of the hour was the sun. |
